E3 2105: EA Round Up

EA opened their show with a game which I know a lot of fans have been screaming to see for a few years now - the new Mass Effect game.  Well, it has a name, a trailer & a release date!

Mass Effect Andromenda coming Holiday 2016

The new Need For Speed next.  I am not a huge fan of racing games (apart from Burnout Paradise which was just perfect) but this is looking rather interesting.  Full customisation of cars. Five action packed over lapping stories. The game is split between real life actors and gameplay for when you are actually driving. It is honestly difficult to tell the difference when the switch happens as the detail of the cars is amazing.  [gameplay trailer]

New story content is coming to The Old Republic.  Fans wanted more Bioware style story and apparently this is what this new DLC will offer.  Knights of the Fallen Empire will release Oct 27 2015. [trailer]

Next up is an original IP called Unravel.  This is a puzzle platformer that involves a character made up of yarn which unravels as you move through the level.  The poor guy talking about his game was so nervous but he seemed to ease up as he moved through his presentation. The game looks very interesting and unique - hopefully we will see more of this in the future.

Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 - as a huge fan of the first game I am looking forwarded to the sequel.  In the sequel the plants are on the attack for the first time ever and will introduce 6 new character classes from pass present and future.  It looks just as insane as the first game.  Solo play has been introduced so you can play through all modes with AI and characters from the first game can be transferred to the sequel at launch.
Due Spring 2016 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC with free content updates

EA Sports were up next showing of a showcase of their upcoming sports titles including NHL 16, Fifa 16, NBA Live 16, Madden NFL 16 & Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.  The one feature that was apparent across all games is how realistic the player movement is now.  It is really like watching the actual sport.  Fantasy Football is coming to Madden too.  From what I understand this will make a lot of people happy.  Personally, it all went over my head.  To introduce the latest entry in Fifa, EA had brought a legend along - Pele.  I understand this guy is a legend but this section slowed the pace down to a snail pace.  It really felt like they were filling time here as they do not have a lot to show off.

Two new games are heading to mobile devices.  Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes and Minion Paradise.  Very little was said about the Star Wars game but a lot was shown about the Minion game but the main thing that stood out was that it is a free to play builder game.  Seriously, why was this even shown?  There was even a forced applause at the end of it.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst - this will be the origin story of Faith and has been built on the latest version of the Frostbite Engine.  They have gone for a more open world feel this time - there are no levels or load times.  This is a true free runner. Coming out Feb 23rd 2016.

To finish the show off they showed of gameplay footage of Star Wars Battle Front.  I would have never guessed it would be at the end apart from the constant reminders by the presenters and the on screen text!  This is a must play for all Star Wars Fans and to be honest any fan of Battlefield as it plays just like it - in fact I would go as far as saying it is Battlefield in some situations.

That is you lot for this year from EA.  No huge surprises were shown as we all sort of knew what they were going to show.  They played it pretty safe this year and I still have no idea why mobile games were shown!
