News: New Atelier Shallie info

Gust has shared new info on its upcoming Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea for Ps3.

A Cathartic Battle System

Atelier Shallie has a battle system that’s intended to feel tactical, yet brisk and exhilarating. In the world of Dusk, you’re bound to come across an array of foes in your travels, but just how will you go about dealing with them? That’s what we’re here to explain today, as battles are a core part of the gameplay experience. As such, here’s an overview of how battles will flow in the game when you play it.

First things first, get to hitting the enemy!

Fights in Atelier Shallie can have up to six party members participating, with three taking up the front line and the remaining three taking up the back. It’s going to take some smart uses of your attacks and skills to take on the strong enemies that await you in the game. The two alchemists in the game, Shallistera and Shallote, are also free to use items during combat.

Take advantage of assists and skills!

While characters in the front row can use skills, they can also receive offensive and defensive assistance from those relegated to the back row. Such assistance is especially useful for when you’re close to finishing an enemy off or just need a little more HP to keep on fighting, so it’s a good idea to link up and coordinate move with characters in the back with assists.

Break out into Burst Mode!

Taking actions in battle will fill out the Burst Gauge in the upper-right corner of the screen. When it’s all full, you’ll go into Burst Mode, which bestows you with myriad perks, including ones such as increased strength and assists being more easily triggered. There are also special cooperative moves and extremely powerful special skills that can only be performed in this mode.

Stay on Point!

Should you manage to hit monsters on the field before a battle commences, you’ll start the fight under advantageous conditions.

Make the most of your skills and cooperative moves!

As mentioned before, getting stronger and using those special skills in battle means you should be striving to fill up the Burst Gauge as soon as possible. Here are some ways to make that happen!

Assisting other characters!

After characters on the front line are done making their moves, those in the back can either proceed to provide Assist Attacks, which will build up the Gauge and Chain counter, or perform Assist Guards and impede enemy attacks. Whichever route they go with is up to you!

Build that Burst Gauge up with skills!

Skills in the game take MP to pull off, but on the flip side, they dish out high amounts of damage to the enemies and are good for building up the Burst Gauge. Every skills a character has also comes with its own animation and voice acting. The effects that skills can dole upon enemies include making them take their turns later and potentially making them faint more easily, among other things. The amount that the Burst Gauge goes up as a result of skills also changes in accordance to the range of characters’ skills and attacks and, by extension, how many enemies their moves end up impacting at once.

Build up your Chain counter by following up cooperative moves one after the other!

Should you fulfill certain conditions, the Burst Gauge can actually go past 100 perfect. Just what happens next will be detailed in the next section. Either way, when you’re in Burst Mode, Assist Attacks can be used one after the other, making it possible to link cooperative moves together and building up your Chain counter.

Go beyond your limits with Field Bursts!

Field Bursts influence conditions on the field overall and occur in the game when you trigger Burst Mode with more than 100 percent on your Burst Gauge. The specific effects vary depending on the character that pulls it off, but they can result in things such as all attacks dishing out critical hits and increasing the Chain counter.

Chain moves together with cooperative skills!

Normally, one character that attacks up front has one other character in the back that can provide assists to them, but in Burst Mode, again, Assist Attacks can be linked together consecutively, thereby making the Chain counter go higher and higher and majorly upping the strength of effects. There might even be special cooperative skills that can be pulled off when you max out your ranks in the back row with three characters!

Finish the enemy off with a final blow during Burst Mode!

As the game goes on, you’ll eventually unlock the ability to use extremely powerful techniques while in Burst Mode. While they’re perfectly strong moves when triggered on their own, if you hold off on using them until you’ve chained some cooperative moves together, the damage you inflict will go up even more in accordance to how high the Chain counter gets! In the event that you use one of these sorts of skills as the finishing blow, the way that the character performs it changes, too!

The story of Shallistera and Shallotte, two girls with their own dreams and fates

Each girl’s story develops differently.

Atelier Shallie’s two protagonists each have their own personalities and hopes they long to fulfill. The storyline in the game is structured by chapters, with supporting characters meeting your chosen protagonist at different times depending on who you play. Shallistera, for example, is a serious and courageous girl who hopes to find a way to save her home. Her story begins by recruiting Cortes and Teokhuga. Shallotte, meanwhile, isn’t one who’s much for looking before she leaps when it comes to most anything and just wants to grow up to be big and strong. She spends her days hanging out with her old friend Miruca, taking up working as an alchemist.

Unique Plot Developments

The extent to which each character’s respective story is different is sure to be a point of curiosity for anybody playing the game. As such, we brought a few examples of what the two girls are up to at similar points within the overall storyline.

The beginning of their adventures

Shallistera heads for Strard in the hopes of being able to save her hometown. While she feels she’ll always be a girl from a boating family, she nonetheless sets out for adventure. Shallotte, on the other hand, has little on her mind behind her goal of getting bigger and just goes about her days working and striving on making her aspirations come true.

The big old world out there

Having only known her home for her whole life, Shallistera learns just how big the world outside it really is when she heads out. Shallotte, in comparison, may be a few steps ahead in this regard, as while Shallistera is dealing with her shock, she’s simply minding her own business scavenging for materials like it’s no big deal.

Turning points

Trouble ends up following Shallistera and company wherever they go. Although she feels depressed about her inability to resolve these issues on her own, she ultimately ends up moving forward for the sake of her hometown. As for Shallotte, she ends up wanting to change what every day is like for her after something happens in her life, contemplating what she can do as someone with boundless energy and her self-taught alchemy as her strong points.

The Two Shallies

In Strard, Shallistera was used to being called by “Shallie,” but as it turns out, she may well not be the only one with that nickname. Shallotte, on the other hand, has a girl that she finds watching her from afar. We’ll save the details for what’s up with that for later, though.

Despite Miruca’s sharp tongue, the two are nevertheless close when they go out and do things together.
