More details have been shared about Rise of the Dark Spark.  There are over 40 playable characters and it will be a follow up to the movie, Age of Extinction.  The player can switch between Autobots and Decepticons during the single player, which sees you hunting for the Dark Spark.
There is a new leveling system which is used across both multiplayer and single player meaning that experience earned during any part of the game will allow players to unlock load-outs, weapons, abilities and characters.
Also Escalation is back, offering four player online cooperative wave defense.  New features include new up gradable defense systems, more playable characters and recognizable opponents.

Original Story

It has been a rumour a few days ago but now it looks like Transformers Rise of the Dark spark is real.
It got the big reveal at the Toy Fair in New York and is being released some point this year on Wii U, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS & PC.
It is set to tie the Michael Bay films into the fantastic Cybertron series created by High Moon Studios.  So, in theory this is a sequel to those games.  High Moon are not developing this game though, this task has been given to Edge of Reality.  Who are they you ask?  They worked on Mass Effect & Dragon Age Origins, so hopefully we should be in for something good.
Speaking to Examiner.com, an Activision rep explained that the game will serve as a means of "marrying two different universes, the Tranformers Cybertron universe and the Michael Bay Transformers universe."
